Academic References
General information
The Institute of Risk Management and Insurance is happy to provide students who have participated in courses at the Institute with letters of recommendation for further applications within academia.
Please note that we generally only issue academic references. We do not provide references for potential future employers. Academic references for applications to universities, scholarships or exchange terms are personally addressed to the respective universities or institutions. In our experience, this procedure increases the credibility of such references and gives them more weight. We also ask you to bear in mind that we only send references to a maximum of five universities or institutions per student.
We kindly ask you to get in touch with us using the contact form.
Required documents
Please send the following documents with your request:
- curriculum vitae,
- current transcript of records,
- a list of the courses attended at the Institute of Risk Management and Insurance as well as the grades achieved,
- a cover letter with the following information:
- your contact details,
- when you need the reference by,
- what institution(s) you need the reference for,
- what degree program you would like to apply to,
- what language the report should be written in,
- how and to whom the report should be sent (e-mail, post, online portal, etc.),
- if applicable, application forms.
Students who have only attended the courses "Grundlagen der BWL", "Investition und Finanzierung“ or "Accounting & Finance" with us also need a 1-2 page letter of motivation, which helps us prepare a meaningful reference. In this letter of motivation, you should explain as convincingly as possible why you want to receive a scholarship/go abroad/etc.
Generally, this will be followed by a personal interview with a member of the Institute's staff who is familiar to you. In this interview, we want to learn more about the purpose of the reference as well as your motivation.
Contact
We kindly ask you to get in touch with us using the contact form.
Please contact our institute with your request at least four weeks before the submission deadline:
- Contact person for your review: A member of our staff known to you (supervisor of the Bachelor thesis, supervisor of the seminar paper or tutor).
- In case the staff members you know are no longer employed at the Institute, please contact Paulina La Bonte (p.bonte@lmu.de).
